Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required
- 5 years relevant experience required
- 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
- 3 years of testing experience in UNIX/LINUX or Windows environments
- Experience in the coordination and execution of test events in accordance with approved test plans, procedures, and scripts
- Must have knowledge and skills to ensure that test environments are set up accurately
- Must be able to create test reports
- Must be able to test IT hardware, software, systems, and networks
- Experience with automated tester experience using tools such as Cypress, Jira, Xray, Ready API, Postman, SOAP UI and Groovy scripting experience

Additional Minimum Qualifications
- Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and/or other federal organizations
- Strongly prefer experience with testing middleware Java, Node.Js, AWS Native Cloud products
- Experience with Performance Testing, Regression Testing, and Integration Testing
- Experience with automating tests for CI/CD pipeline and experience with AWS Lambda and Canary
- Experience with Agile methodology and Scrum approach
- Ability to demonstrate solution features to stakeholders, share knowledge, and provide tool and process guidance
- Strong ability to foster collaborative work in dynamic team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong creative, analytical, customer service, problem solving, and trouble-shooting skills
- Open to occasional travel (5% - 10% to VA and Vendor locations)
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, MS Teams, MS Project, GoToMeeting, and SharePoint
- Availability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, as required
- Passionate and motivated self-starter that excels in a dynamic, fast-paced environment requiring only limited supervision

Job Description
Cognosante is seeking an experienced Sr. Software Engineer with a history of delivering high caliber results with high client satisfaction. The successful candidate must be energetic, communicative, intelligent, motivated, and have a passion and aptitude for ensuring software quality. The Sr. Software Engineer will have extensive experience and knowledge to design, code, test, debug and document software in a variety of programming languages and will have the knowledge of the latest programming languages and techniques. Additionally, the Sr. Software Engineer will have extensive experience in creating strategies for developing IT systems and applications. Has experience in evaluating alternative and selecting optimal approaches and will create and improve the existing suite of automation tests and overall automation framework at the direction of the Testing Manager. This individual will act on behalf of business stakeholders, playing a key role on Agile Scrum development teams, collaborating closely with developers and other stakeholders to understand functional requirements, acceptance criteria, and technical and security concerns, and will implement automated testing in support of DevOps best practices. They will ensure that testing artifacts are maintained appropriately, as required by the applicable SDLC processes. They must scope and define test plans for the team in support of overall program roadmaps, releases, and sprints. Superior communication and collaboration skills are essential to this role. The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of VA, Community Care, and VIP.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, code, test, debug, and document software in a variety of programming languages
- Create strategies for developing IT systems and applications
- Coordinate and execute test events in accordance with approved test plans, procedures, and scripts
- Create test data
- Develop test plans and test procedures
- Ensure that test environments are set up accurately
- Test IT hardware, software, systems, and networks
- Create test execution reports and test data
- Configure necessary hardware and operating environments as needed to complete assigned testing
- Evaluate existing test artifacts and design test cases/scripts for new releases independently
- Assist in creating project resource estimates and defining metrics to track completion phase, defect reports, defect prevention and test coverage
- Able to work in fast-paced Agile development environment
- Work closely with the Scrum Master, business analyst, scrum master, developers, project manager, and stakeholders to understand product specifics and to create corresponding test strategies
- Execute testing on both frontend and backend systems
- Be an advocate for our VA customer stakeholders and the ultimate beneficiaries of our solution - our Nation’s Veterans
- Collaborate with project leadership and client stakeholders to deliver the project on time, with high quality, and in alignment with the customer’s expectations
- Interact effectively and professionally with clients, stakeholders, partners, sub-contractors, and vendors recognizing you will be the face of Cognosante in many conversations
- Develop a keen understanding of program goals and requirements and develop a vision to both meet the customer’s current needs, and for evolution of the program to meet changing client needs
- Anticipate project challenges and risk scenarios and prepare, lead, and execute proactive mitigation strategies to ensure optimal results
- Escalate key issues and recommend solutions to project and client leadership
- Ensure targets for contractual performance metrics/SLAs are met or exceeded, and provide analysis and communication to ensure appropriate focus on critical attention areas
- Identify and execute on opportunities for process improvements
- Meet individual potential and performance expectations
- Maintain knowledge of VA rules and regulations
- Understand and comply with SDLC and Agile methodology used for the project
