Who you are

You have 5+ years of professional experience writing and maintaining production-level applications with a passion for shipping high-quality software and working with cross-functional stakeholders.

  • You are passionate about architecting, designing and developing front-end applications. You may be pro- or anti- React, Vue, Svelte or other framework, but those opinions are weakly held in favor of using the right tool for the application.
  • You are polyglot and highly proficient with some of these languages: Go, Elixir, PHP and are excited for the opportunity to learn the others.
  • You’re highly proficient in adapting and extending front-end frameworks, or have experience contributing to front-end framework projects.
  • You care about driving the adoption of best-practices in code-health, testing, maintainability, and solving problems.
  • You find inefficiency irksome and look for ways to simplify and speed up the software development life cycle. You take advantage of opportunities to improve frustrating processes to make fellow engineers more productive
  • You like teaching others to fill knowledge gaps on your team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

You will be joining the Cars Commerce Platform Engineering team that is building foundational services to support our products. Our services include scaled data processing, IAM support, and customer experiences that cut across all of our product lines. Our goals are to consolidate duplicated systems and build best-in-class APIs and experiences to support internal and external customers.

As the team’s senior front-end engineer, you will be tasked with architecting the front-end layer for our platform applications. The applications use various stacks (Go, Elixir+Pheonix, PHP). You will determine how these backend systems manage routing and how they integrate with the front-end layer you develop.

In addition to this, you will be expected to drive the development of widgets and components that can be reused across multiple tech stacks.

  • Develop quality, scalable, efficient front-end software around our Elixir+Phoenix, Go, and PHP backends.
  • Practice good, consistent software development hygiene.
  • Own and organize clear documentation and testing tools
  • Provide thought leadership and an educated voice for technological direction of front-end systems within our team.
  • Lead and organize engineers to develop and maintain a scalable front-end
  • Act as a subject matter expert within areas of our tech stack.
  • Work across multi-disciplined teams in Engineering, Design, Product, and the rest of the organization, with the ability to influence & drive results.
  • Drive architectural decisions around our front-end implementations, including CICD.


In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position which is not inclusive of bonuses, benefits or other forms of compensation that the position may be eligible for. If you are hired at Cars Commerce, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills and/or experience. Salary Range

  • $131,400—$164,300 USD
