Scismic is supporting the growth of a life sciences software company. We are looking for a talented Software Engineer (Python) to join their team.
What will make you a good fit
- Minimum of 4 years of experience developing software applications (specifically web applications)
- 4+ years of experience with JavaScript, Python, HTML and CSS
- Experience administering Linux systems, including setting up networking, shared file systems, remote access, and firewalls
- Bachelor's or equivalent experience in a relevant field, such as computer science or software engineering
- Proven background working in customer facing role with excellent customer service skills
What will make you stand out
- Familiar with life sciences concepts, tools and applications (molecular biology, genomics, etc.)
- Experience with computational modeling of real-world processes
- Exposure to Tornado, scientific Python (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy)
- Familiarity with cloud computing tools (eg. AWS, Docker, Kubernetes) would be amazing!

As a Software Engineer working with Python on our Maintenance (Support) team. You will provide technical support to the company customers requiring assistance with functionality or diagnosing of unexpected results or errors. You will get to interact directly with our enterprise customers to provide prompt solutions in a professional manner so strong problem determination, problem isolation, and root cause analysis skills are required to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues our product.
The daily work includes regular updating of support incidents to record progress of open issues in our incident tracking system, hosting sessions with customers to diagnose reported problems, interacting with core teams for items that require escalation, and documenting technical solutions and product information in the knowledge base.
What you will get to do:
- Investigate, troubleshoot, reproduce, and determine solutions for customer reported problems
- Communicate updates, send requests for information, solutions, and other correspondence via our Zendesk support ticketing system.
- As needed, escalate confirmed bugs or defects to engineering via issue tracking system (Jira)
- Create and document Knowledge Base articles for purposes of ticket deflection and solution repeatability
- Participate in on-call rotation as needed
