Description

At January, we work to ensure that borrowers who fall behind on debt are treated with dignity. Owing to outdated processes and bad actors, traditional debt collection is rife with harassment and fraud. Our products tackle this by helping financial institutions modernize collections, giving borrowers simpler and more compassionate ways to get back on track.

Because of the pandemic, there’s never been a more important time for our mission.

Site Reliability Engineers at January aren’t just responsible for maintaining systems and writing code. You'll also own product and team outcomes, advocate for customers, and help other engineers grow.

Your Impact

Invest in the right tools. You’ll work to make our systems more scalable and reliable and will have a chance to research and advocate for the best available tools to do so. We don't want to follow industry trends blindly but if there are new-to-us tools that can improve the overall system you'll have a chance to help us identify where they can have maximal impact.

Continuously improve security. We work in a heavily regulated space with clients that care a lot about compliance, but we want to always press beyond the minimum requirements and work to identify and mitigate security flaws. Our posture here is a major selling point to clients but keeping it there requires continual investment.

Technical leverage. Develop simple solutions to complex technical scaling problems, improving developer leverage, reliability, security, and compliance. Operating at the key intersection between development and operations, you will have a major chance to weigh in on how our choices about application development impact the complexity of our systems as a whole.

Developing peers. You'll level up other engineers by sharing your knowledge of systems, engineering practices, and the problem domain, helping ensure their success. You'll do this through code review, pair programming, documentation, and just plain being supportive.

As the company grows, you may also be involved in scoping, architecting, and implementing new product lines. You’ll have the opportunity to build new lines of business from scratch.

What we can offer you:

  • Hybrid and remote work opportunities, allowing you to work in the office and from home on a schedule that works for you

At January, we believe that diversity of outlooks, demographics, identities, and life experiences enable companies to build the best products. More diversity means more empathy with different types of people. This matters a lot for us, since so many borrowers in financial distress with whom we engage come from underrepresented backgrounds. We practice what we preach and look forward to continuing to grow and build on our already diverse team.
