Qualifications

You have

  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Hands on experience with one JavaScript framework/library; React 16 preferred
  • Working in an Agile environment using Scrum, Kanban, etc.
  • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent; advance degree desirable.
  • Experience in design and launching design applications preferred.
  • Knowledge of release/build/configuration management practices preferred.
  • Understanding of software best-practices as it applies to web and business application development

Position Summary

Do you want to be part of a collaborative problem-solving engineering team? Guardian is looking for a software engineer who demonstrates courage, intelligence, honor, energy, adaptability, innovation, and initiative. This individual will contribute to the Design System for the Guardian enterprise. We are looking for a self-starter who is fueled by transforming conceptual thinking into executable insights. The successful candidate must live by the Guardian operating principles of thinking big & growing, accelerate engineering impact and be able to lead through change and by example.

The successful candidate will contribute to Guardian’s Design System, which requires a strong partnership between developers and experience designers. Guardian Design System defines the guidelines of core components that support design best practices, Guardian's brand, and an inclusive user experience. The system acts as a conduit between designers, developers, product owners, and QA giving full teams a common language to build web site designs quickly, consistently, and beautifully.


You will

  • Develop and deploy high-volume, high-usage React components
  • Work on a Scrum Team to deliver software projects that drive the business value for Guardian.
  • Collaborate with Technical Teammates, Technical Manager, Scrum Master and subject matter experts from the businesses.
  • Learn / be compliant with security, privacy, legal, infrastructure, and administrative/corporate processes and policies.
  • Contribute to project success by participating in project planning, estimates, and requirements grooming providing feedback.
  • Partner and eventually independently contribute code architecture and reviews
  • Contribute to idea generation and may initiate and lead strategic projects that will add significant value to the business.
  • Contribute to technical strategic planning for Guardian, proposing new directions and technologies.
  • Act independently and as part of a team to translate business and technical requirements into well-engineered, tested, and deployed applications.
  • Reporting Relationships
  • As Application Developer, you will report to a Technical Manager who reports to Digital Organization’s Director.

Location

  • This opportunity is remote

Travel

  • Infrequent travel required for this role. May have team offsites every 10 weeks or quarterly.
