Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in CS/MIS or related field
- One or more years of software development experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of software development experience
- Experience working in a higher education technology setting
- Experience crafting complex SQL statements
- Experience developing Java web applications in a professional environment
- Experience with HTML, JSON, XML, CSS, JavaScript or Node.js
- Technical experience with the Ellucian Banner Higher Education system
- Experience using or adminstering Git or similar version control solutions
- Oracle SQL/PL*SQL experience

Reporting to the Manager of Application Development, as a Junior Application Developer you will support the University’s mission by developing enterprise software and supporting the campus user community. You may already have education or experience in Java, PL*SQL, or Pro*C, and are excited to learn more in a diverse technology ecosystem.

Duties/Responsibilities
30% Application Development
As a member of the Application Development team, you’ll focus on developing software applications and integrations to support key campus offices. You will partner with business analysts to document requirements and design solutions, and coordinate with your peers to produce code that solves real-world business problems.

30% Problem Resolution
You’ll be one of the first team members engaged to investigate and resolve code defects, system changes and data integrity issues. You’ll collaborate with customers, system administrators, developers and management to resolve urgent issues.
20% Systems Analysis and Design
You will apply your understanding of our environment, data models and industry standards to recommend the ideal development approach to solve a given problem, coordinating with peers and customers to ensure positive outcomes. You’ll use the same experience to review analysis and design work completed by other developers for logic, design flaws and feasibility.
15% Testing and Documentation
Working with other developers, you’ll develop test plans and data to exercise both your code and your peers’ programs. You’ll also ensure that new releases are adequately documented, creating both user and technical documentation while participating in the release planning process.
5% Other Duties
You will occasionally represent the department in meetings, and may periodically complete work after-hours.
