Frontend Software Engineer at Havoc Shield

1 year ago Development & Programming Middle Full-Time

We’re looking for a Frontend Software Engineer who has 3+ years experience in frontend development, and 1+ year specifically with Vue.js. You’re passionate about data analytics, data visualization, automating processes, and designing user interfaces.

About You

  • Experience with frontend technologies: 3+ years experience in frontend development, and 1+ year specifically with Vue.js. Based on your experience and knowledge, you make pragmatic suggestions for how to improve our frontend tooling and abstractions.
  • Navigating ambiguity in design: You can translate high level designs into production-ready UI. Given clear requirements, you are comfortable making judgment calls on tradeoffs and edge cases in the user experience on your own. You don't need to see every interaction mocked out ahead of time, but you actively partner with designers to suss out the details when the requirements are unclear.
  • Shipping quality user experiences: You elevate the quality of the product by proactively identifying user experience problems before they ship. You don't just flag issues for others to solve—you communicate potential alternatives and brainstorm solutions with your teammates.
  • Thoughtful problem-solving: For you, problem-solving starts with a clear and accurate understanding of the context. You can decompose tricky problems and work towards a clean solution, by yourself or with teammates. You're comfortable asking for help when you get stuck.
  • Pragmatic and business-oriented: You care about the business impact of what you're building, and you prioritize projects accordingly. You're not just going after cool stuff—you understand the balance between craft, speed, and the bottom line. You think critically about the implications of what you're building, and how it it impacts user experience.
  • Team player: You understand when work is better, together. You enjoy collaborating cross-functionally to accomplish shared goals, and you care about learning, growing, and helping others to do the same. You communicate nuanced ideas clearly, whether you're explaining technical decisions in writing or brainstorming in real time.

Hello from Havoc Shield!

We’re A Small Team of Passionate Technologists, Entrepreneurs, and Democratizers making a professional cybersecurity program accessible to small and vulnerable companies. It’s kind of like TurboTax for small business cybersecurity in that we take the ocean of complexity that is risk mitigation, vendor management, policies, recovery, and orchestration and we bake it into a step by step action plan that non-experts can execute on.

At Havoc Shield, we know that the workplace dynamic is changing and we have changed with it. Your day will not be broken up into countless meetings, distractions that could wait and unnecessary fire-drills. We believe in small teams. Small teams are fast and nimble. Small teams mean less bureaucracy and less management and more getting things done. Our team is 100% remote and distributed across the United States.

We’re looking for a Frontend Software Engineer who has 3+ years experience in frontend development, and 1+ year specifically with Vue.js. You’re passionate about data analytics, data visualization, automating processes, and designing user interfaces. You enjoy creating and maintaining applications to visualize information and streamline the software engineering workflow focusing on user experience. If you've solved some of the technical challenges that come from rapid growth, that's a plus.

Tech Stack: Our platform uses the PHP framework Laravel and the Javascript framework Vue tied together with the InertiaJS library for a SPA-like experience without the maintenance overhead. Our platform is backed by a MySQL database and relies on the N8N workflow engine and the RPA framework via Robocorp for out-of-band tasks. All of our servers are hosted on AWS, and our code is hosted on GitHub. Although we're currently a small team, we use modern methodologies, local environments coordinated by Docker, code reviews, continuous integration, etc. for software development.

More about Havoc Shield:

Pay Transparency

Havoc Shield strives to create transparency in compensation across our team in the pursuit of ensuring pay equality and trust. We’re working on published pay bands for each role that will be available to all team members. We expect those pay bands to be published within Q4 2022. In the meantime, we highlight to employees that it is their right to discuss their compensation with others and always welcome conversations about the topic. We re-evaluate pay bands on an at least annual basis and perform individual compensation reviews bi-annually.

Equity

We’re a growth-stage startup, and one that prizes the careful use of funds to protect our team members. We know we can’t pay the same as a large tech company can, but we do reward employees who want to truly own what they’re working on with significant equity. All full time team members receive equity options. These options are tied to what we can pay in cash and where the market is in terms of total compensation above that. We fill the gap with equity options valued at our last fundraising round’s post-money valuation, of which value we strive to grow year over year. We regularly evaluate our equity option plan to introduce mechanisms and offerings to make understanding, exercising, and benefiting from your options. We know equity is a bet on the company, and so we’re doing everything we can to make sure that bet pays off. Ask us for more details - we’ll be happy to talk about them.
