  • 5+ years of experience in AWS Cloud Computing.
  • Experienced moving public-facing workloads from on-prem to AWS.
  • Experienced with EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFront, DynamoDB, S3, Secrets Manager.
  • Experienced with deployment tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, or Serverless Framework, deploying AWS Gateway API and Lambda to multiple environments.
  • Experienced with Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, Gitlab-ci, Python, Django & Datadog
  • Core understanding of CDN, load balancing, caching, security and WAF strategies.
  • Strong cross-team communication and interpersonal skills to interact with teams.
  • AWS Certifications (Solutions Architect, Developer) are a plus.


Description

The Motley Fool is looking for a highly skilled, Freelance DevOps Engineer with a strong track record of migrating on-prem workloads to AWS.

We are estimating 35-40 hours per week for this role for approximately 6 months.

What does this team do?

We are assembling a team of AWS-experienced developers, engineers, product managers, designers and more to help us migrate to a cloud-first environment. This freelance DevOps Engineer will be reporting directly to our acting CTO, but will work cross functionally with tech stakeholders across The Motley Fool on our current systems and their migration to the cloud.

What will you do in this role?

We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer with a strong track-record of migrating on-prem workloads to AWS. In this role, you will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance to teams as you roll up your sleeves and help to migrate our applications and workloads to the cloud. You will have a vital role in completing the migration to the cloud as seamlessly and transparently as possible. We will be discovering, evaluating, demoing and implementing native AWS services to replace our current toolset and support our development teams throughout the migration process.

Okay, but what will you actually do in this role?

  • Assist with migration from on-prem to AWS on a compressed timeline.
  • Assist development teams with architecting, integrating, and deploying their applications in AWS environments.
  • Work on a platform for monitoring, logging, and orchestration of docker applications running on AWS EKS.
  • Create continuous integration and development pipelines for development teams on various platforms such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab, TravisCI, or others.
  • Create and maintain Terraform and Cloudformation stacks.
  • Effectively communicate status, issues, and risks in a precise and timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot and conduct root cause analysis to address routine to moderately complex issues with accuracy or performance.
  • Monitor and gather and analyze metrics from operating systems as well as applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding.

Desired Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.

5+ years of experience in AWS Cloud Computing.

Experienced moving public-facing workloads from on-prem to AWS.

Experienced with EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFront, DynamoDB, S3, Secrets Manager.

Experienced with deployment tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, or Serverless Framework, deploying AWS Gateway API and Lambda to multiple environments.

Experienced with Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, Gitlab-ci, Python, Django & Datadog

Core understanding of CDN, load balancing, caching, security and WAF strategies.

Strong cross-team communication and interpersonal skills to interact with teams.

Compensation:

Our budget for this role is $100-115/hr depending on experience.
